Book review - Haynes Motorsport Fitness Manual

I have been working on improving my fitness for a while now. The better your physical fitness, the better you can concentrate and the less mistakes you make. This is especially true in the warmer weather when the heat can seriously affect drivers. Even in amateur & club racing it's a good idea to stay in the best shape possible because it will help your performance, not to mention saving weight in your car!

This book is much more affordable than a personal trainer. Written by a medical specialist, it covers a wide range of topics including: measuring your fitness, designing an exercise plan, motorsport-specific strength training, improving reaction times, weight loss, and first aid.

I bought this book a couple of years ago, and it is one I keep referring back to for useful advice. I would definitely recommend it as a "must have" for any racer on a budget.

South Australian State Motor Racing Championship Round 2 2014, 31 May - 1 June

This was the second round in a row that's been affected by extreme weather. On the very wet Saturday I qualified 6th out of 7 Saloon Cars (3 late model and 4 early) before the day's events were called off due to flooding on & around the track.

The next day was much better with the sun shining and clear skies. With a hastily revised schedule we were given 3 races - 2x 10 laps and 1x 8 laps. In the first race I finished 6th out of 7 Saloon Cars. In race 2 I was able to improve by two spots to 4th, which was 2nd out of the early model cars. In the final race I dropped back to 5th but it was a much closer race than the results indicate, with all cars finishing in a fairly close bunch.

I am a bit rusty due to the lack of racing this year. We are still hoping to have the new VT out for round 3 on August 15-17th, with a practice day or two maybe!

As usual, here's a video highlight from the weekend, this one showing some drama in race 1:
