Round 1 of the SA State Motor Racing Series was originally scheduled for 8 February, but due to the extreme heat and fire danger on the day it was postponed to 22 March. This was run as a daytime only one-day meeting with no night races.
Qualifying went to plan and I qualified 3rd in class (5th overall in a combined field of 9) with a best lap time of 1:22.7608, which I was quite happy with after such a big gap between race meetings. In race 1 I got a good start but then lost a couple of spots with a bad run out of turn 3 on the opening lap, and finished 4th.
In race 2 I got my first ever jump start penalty and was demoted to 6th place. It was my own fault, I didn't quite balance the clutch right while waiting for the lights to go out and the car rolled just a tiny bit. I put the clutch back in & stopped, then took off with the rest of the field, so I didn't gain any advantage but the rules are the rules so I got a 5 second time penalty added.
Race 3 was a little better; after starting 6th I made my way back up to 3rd in class (4th overall).
Here's a video of one of those "what the" moments that sometimes happens... Can't explain this one to be honest.
